SOFTBALL

MERIDIAN - Lindsie Scholwinski struck out 15 batters in two wins on Friday as the Vikings won their first three games in the Idaho Sporting Goods tournament at Meridian High.

Jessica Lupinacci had a three-run home run in the top of the seventh in an 13-2 win over Meridian, finishing the game with three RBIs. The junior added two RBIs in the Vikings' 7-4 win over Mountain Home.

Kristina Goodwin hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning in a 7-6 win over defending state 5A champion Timberline of Boise. Elli Tindall had three RBIs for the Vikings (9-0), who face Mountain View of Meridian and Highland of Pocatello today to conclude the tournament.

"It was a really good game," Coeur d'Alene coach Larry Bieber said of the win over Timberline. "They'd score and we'd keep answering. Our center fielder (Hailey Petit) made a diving catch to save a run. It came right down to the wire. That's the team we played for a state title last year, so it was a really good win for us."
