Medina-Papillion highlight House of Fury card tonight

WORLEY - A total of seven bouts are on the card for tonight's House of Fury professional boxing event at the Coeur d'Alene Casino starting at 7 p.m.

Highlighting the card is Favio Medina (21-2-3, 8 KOs) of Sandpoint, who will face Jason Papillion of Broussard, La. (39-14-2 25 KOs) in a 12 round, 147 pound matchup.

The last time the two squared off on Oct. 22, 2009, the bout ended in a technical draw do to an accidental head butt, causing Papillion to get a huge cut over his left eye and stopping the fight in the third round.

Also on the card is George "Monk" Foreman III, who is currently 5-0 with five knockouts. He is scheduled for a four-round bout with an opponent to be determined.

Foreman's group will also bring Roy McCarry of Houston, who will make his pro debut against Anthony Beyoune of Portland, Ore., in a four-round heavyweight bout.

McCarry, who is Foreman's sparring partner, is a former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman.

Rounding out the undercard will be: Kaleb Fisher (2-0-1, 1 KO) vs. David Mendez (1-2, 1 KO); Charles Ellis, (5-0, 4 KO) vs. Emerson Chasing Bear (4-0-1, 3 KO); Hilario Lopez (11-7, 8 KO) vs. Daniel Gonzales (19-25-2, 3 KO) and Skyler Anderson (14-1-1, 8 KO) vs. Moses Droz (13-9,10 KO).

Tickets prices are $50 for ringside, $35 reserved, $17.50 for general admission. Doors open at 6 p.m. and fights are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Lakeland High to

hold softball clinic

Coaches and players for the Lakeland High softball team will hold a free softball clinic for players ages 6 to 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the high school field.

Timberwolves to

host baseball clinic

Players and coaches for the Lake City High baseball team will hold "Spring Training 15" April 1-3 at the school.

The clinic is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to players ages 9 to 14.

Cost for the clinic is $50 for preregistration, or $60 at the door the first day of the camp.

Chaves to speak at NIC booster luncheon

Eastern Washington University athletics director Bill Chaves will be the featured speaker at the North Idaho College Booster Club luncheon Tuesday at noon at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Shore Lounge.

Chaves has served as Eastern Washington University's athletics director since 2007. Prior to that, he worked as an associate athletics director for external affairs at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He has vast experience in marketing and development at several schools, including two years at the University of Northern Colorado (1999-2001), which became a member of the Big Sky Conference in the 2006-07 academic year.

Chaves was also at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst as an assistant athletics director (2002-2004) and at Northeastern University in Boston as director of external affairs for the athletics department (2001-2002).

The public is welcome to attend the meeting. The cost of the lunch is not covered.

Rathdrum Parks and Rec

starting volleyball league

The Rathdrum Parks and Recreation Department is now offering a Spring 4 person Co-Ed Volleyball league for all those who still want to get the inside fast action of Adult Volleyball. A & B divisions will be offered.

This program will begin with games on Sunday April 11 at Lakeland High School. The season will run till May 23 with a season-ending tournament.

Team/Sponsor fee is $160. A minimum of 3 players are needed with a maximum of 7 players on a team rosters. Sign up today for the Fun-in-the Sun wild action of Volleyball indoors!.
