George Stephen (Steve) Hensley, 39

George Stephen (Steve) Hensley, 39, passed away March 21, 2010. Steve was born Aug. 18, 1970, in Coeur d’Alene.

As a young boy, he played baseball for nine years in Dalton Gardens and was selected several times for end of the summer all-star teams. He took every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. In addition to his love for his family, friends and his best dog buddies Boomer and Casey, he had a passion for hunting, fishing, camping and archery. He harvested more than a dozen elk and even more deer. He was a card carrying member of the National Rifle Association.

Steve also enjoyed cooking. He was a logger for 24 years in the Coeur d’Alene Mountains, working hand in hand with his father for 18 years. He knew most of he back roads of the Coeur d’Alene National Forest.

Married just short of 19 years, Steve is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Hayden Lake; son Stephen and daughter Christine (Cricket); his father, George and mother Louise of Hayden Lake; his father-and mother-in-law, Arnold (Scrooge) and Sandy McGrath of Twin Lakes; his brother, Ricky Painter of Gaithersburg, Mass., and daughters Charmaine, Sherry Lynn and Laurie; sister Katrina Jaeger of Coeur d’Alene and sons Nathaniel, Nicholas and Chastin and daughters Brittany and Mia; sister Pamela Lee of Coeur d’Alene, husband Greg, daughters Janel and Kelly and son Sean; and sister-in-law Cindy Martin of Phoenix, Ariz., husband Jerry, daughters Jessica and Heather and grandson Maddox.

Steve was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Painter. Welcoming Steve at the gates of Heaven was his best friend, Wesley Gilmore, Andy Halsell and cousin Jerry Rowe.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene. Casual dress is requested.
