Ashburn strikes out 17 in no-hitter

SOFTBALL

SPOKANE - Post Falls senior Richelle Ashburn struck out 17 batters in a 4-0 no-hit win over West Valley on Wednesday.

"Richelle pitched real well today," Post Falls coach Jack Foster said. "She hit her spots and moved the ball around the zone all night. She's been throwing well all year. She throws strikes and hits the corners real well."

Rachel Collins had an RBI double in the first inning and a two-run single in the top of the seventh to finish with three RBIs.

Post Falls (5-2) will host Coeur d'Alene on April 6.

The visiting Wampus Cats defeated the Panthers at Cherry Hill Park.

"I thought we shined where I thought we would," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Ray Longpre said. "We don't have all the positions set quite yet, but we played well in our mixed doubles."

Coeur d'Alene Charter No. 1 Steven Hallgren built a 5-0 lead and had to hold on late in an 8-6 win over Nate Nesbitt.

Coeur d'Alene Charter will host the Post Falls JV today at Cherry Hill Park.
