Softball pitchers duel goes to Viks

RATHDRUM - Junior Jessica Lupinacci connected on an RBI double in the top of the third inning to give the Coeur d'Alene Vikings the lone run in a 1-0 victory over the Lakeland Hawks on Tuesday.

Ashley Metcalf had seven strikeouts for Lakeland (2-3), which hosts Lakeside on Nine Mile Falls, Wash., on Thursday.

Lindsie Scholwinski pitched a two-hitter and Kyeli Parker added two hits for the Vikings (5-0), who travel to Eagle on Thursday.

SPOKANE - Pete Hoffman had three hits and earned the win on the mound for the Timberwolves in a nonleague game against the Eagles.

"Pete had a great day pitching," Lake City coach Al Bevacqua said.

Hoffman had a two-run double in a four-run fifth inning for the Timberwolves (3-2), which faces Moscow on Friday at 3 p.m. at Airport Park as part of the Lewiston tournament.

RATHDRUM — Drew Turbin and Matt Lambert had two hits apiece for the visiting Vikings.

“We played real solid,” Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Rook said. “We hit solid, fielded solid and pitched real solid today.”

Coeur d’Alene broke open the game with a seven-run top of the fourth inning.

Coeur d’Alene (5-2) will face Rocky Mountain in a doubleheader on Friday in the Lewiston tournament at Lewis-Clark State College starting at 10 a.m.

Lakeland (2-3) travels to Sandpoint on Thursday.

Post Falls defeats Lakeland, Wallace

RATHDRUM — Post Falls swept both the boys and girls team scoring a three-team dual with Lakeland and Wallace at Lakeland High.

Nick Hernandez of Post Falls won three events (110 hurdles, pole vault and 300 hurdles) and Matt Wardell won twice for the Trojans (shot put, discus), who also swept the relay races in the boys events.

Rebecca Bauman, who recently signed with Air Force Academy, won the shot put and discus to pace the Trojan girls to a team win. Post Falls’ girls also swept the relays.

SPOKANE — Lake City’s Ronique Padda earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Machenzie Clyde at No. 2 singles to earn the Timberwolves their lone team point vs. the Saxons.

“We had a couple of three-setters that could have gone either way,” Lake City coach Bob Brunn said. “The scores didn’t indicate the way we played. I’m happy with the girls for the way they played.”

Lake City travels to University on April 6.
