Dorothy J. (Jordan) aka 'Tootsie' Tinsley, 93

| March 24, 2010 4:29 AM

Dorothy Tinsley died March 15, 2010, at Lacrosse Health and Rehabilitation Center in Coeur d’Alene. The oldest of five children, Dorothy was born Aug. 14, 1916, to Harry and Ingeborg Jordan in Wilcox, Neb. She married Charles Tinsley in Payette on Oct. 8, 1938. After their marriage of 60 years, Charles preceded her in death in 1999.

Charles and Dorothy lived in McCall where Dorothy worked in the seed potato industry and as a bookkeeper at Shaver’s store. They retired to Midvale to a less snowy and more garden-friendly climate and later became “snowbirds” who wintered in Wellton, Ariz.

Dorothy was a voracious reader who late in life read all the romance novels (at least once) in every library where she lived. She had excellent hand-eye coordination, which made her an accomplished knitter, crocheter, potato-picker and fish-cleaner. She loved to garden and to share her delicious corn and tomatoes and colorful roses, zinnias and asters with friends and family. She also enjoyed fly-fishing and mushrooming.

Dorothy knew hundreds of songs and could play them by ear on a piano or organ. She played piano for dances and many other festivities in McCall, where people often gathered around her piano to sing. She also was the organist for her Eastern Star chapter there. She was always pleased to bring people together with her music.

She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Tinsley Johnson (Graydon), Coeur d’Alene; her son, Bruce Tinsley (Mary Lou), Coos Bay, Ore.; four grandchildren — Kathy Hurt, Janet Tinsley Pierson and Adam and Matt Johnson; and five great-grandchildren.

At her request, no services will be held. Her ashes will join Charlie’s along their favorite fishing streams in central Idaho.
