Bess Marie Frazier, 95

| March 24, 2010 4:28 AM

Bess (Bozena) Marie Frazier, 95, of Coeur d’Alene, died peacefully Sunday, March 7, 2010. She was born Sept. 23, 1914, in St. Louis, Mo., to Methodej and Hedvika Slezak. Bess grew up on a farm in Valley Park, Mo., and attended Catholic school there. In her adult life she lived and worked in St. Louis and Sullivan, Mo., Moline, Ill., Connecticut, Fort Myers, Fla., Atlanta, Ga., and then she found Idaho, and made it her home.

Bess married Tex Binder in 1944 and in 1964 she married Charles Frazier. Both marriages ended in divorce. There were no children from either marriage.

She loved life and always remained active. She participated in the Bloomsday race twice, was a volunteer at nursing homes in Coeur d’Alene and always had a pet to care for and love, namely, Schatze, Sumie and Lucky. She loved animals and wished that she could take care of all of them. She was a very independent lady who was not afraid to tackle any kind of problem. Bess traveled around Hayden on her three-wheel bike and must have walked thousands of miles in her 95 years.

Bess lived in a quiet world as she aged with no TV or radio because of hearing problems. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, doing wonderful craft projects, painting and ceramics, reading and probably most of all loved playing bingo. She won many blue ribbons at the fair for her handmade items. She loved to go on sightseeing trips to towns and areas that could be done in one day. A great memory from the past was her trip to New York for the World Fair in 1939.

Bess will be missed by her only surviving brother, Charles Slezak and wife Dorothy and many nieces and nephews, and by all her friends who had been lucky enough to know and spend time with her through the years. Her death leaves an empty spot in our hearts.

Memorials may be sent to your local humane society. Please visit Bess’s memorial at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com. At her request no services will be held.
