WOLVES: Photo deserved front page

| March 22, 2010 1:38 PM

There have been a few comments about the wolf picture that was on the front page. I’ll bet there are people that are upset about any pictures of dead animals no matter what page they are on but some people seemed particularly disgusted that the picture would be on the front page.

Well, I liked it. I don’t like that the wolves have been introduced into our backwoods and are now making their way closer and closer to our homes. I don’t like that they are killing scores of the deer, elk, and moose and leaving half-eaten carcasses behind because they kill so many. So when someone manages to take one of those beautiful animals off the top of the food chain I want to know about it and silently applaud them.

Sure the Press could have put a school basketball picture or a picture of some award being given or some donation being made on the front page. However, I’m guessing that the Press just may have sold more papers to local hunters wanting to read about that wolf hunt than they lost in sales to people upset by the photo.

I’m not saying all hunting pictures should be on the front page but neither should all the donation photos or all the sports pictures. Just give us a variety and I’ll say again that I’m really glad you picked that one. Bravo to the freedom of the Press and keep the photos coming.
