Vikings sweep Skyview

PREP BASEBALL

HANFORD, Wash. - The Coeur d'Alene Vikings swept away a nonleague doubleheader against Skyview at Hanford High on Saturday.

Drew Turbin totaled three hits in the first game and added two steals and Ryan Dunton had three RBIs in an 11-7 Viking win.

Devon Austin was 2 of 3 from the plate in the second game and drove in three runs in a 7-2 win. Mike Schmidt had six strikeouts in four innings to get the win for the Vikings (4-2), who travel to Lakeland on Tuesday.

"I thought we played well," Coeur d'Alene coach Nick Rook said. "We bounced back well from some good games yesterday. We played good defense behind some good pitching today."

Coeur d'Alene wins two

WENATCHEE - The Vikings traveled to the Eastmont tournament and defeated Wenatchee and Eastmont.

In the first game, Coeur d'Alene scored with one out in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Panthers 7-6. Kyeli Parker had three hits for the Vikings.

Kristina Goodwin, Jessica Lupinacci and Nikki Ragsdale had two RBIs apiece as the Vikings defeated the Wildcats 11-3.

Coeur d'Alene (4-0) travel to Lakeland on Tuesday.

Lakeland goes 2-1, Timberlake winless at Lewiston tournament

LEWISTON - The Hawks won games against Colton and Pullman, while falling to Clarkston by an 8-7 decision to finish third in the Lewiston tournament.

Alisha Watson had three hits in the opener as the Hawks defeated Colton 12-2 in six innings. Jordan Thomas had three RBIs and Alia Cox had two RBIs in the opener.

Clarkston defeated Lakeland 8-7 in the second game. Watson added three hits, along with Cox and Thomas with two hits apiece.

Jamie Klopatek picked up her second win of the season in a complete-game win over the Cougars in the team's final game. Watson had three hits, with Thomas adding a pair of doubles in the 7-3 win.

Lakeland (2-2) hosts Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

Timberlake went 0-3 in the tournament, losing to Pullman 13-6, Lewiston 15-0 and Colton 22-6.

OROFINO - The Lumberjacks took a pair of Intermountain League games from the Maniacs.

Tia Asbury had two home runs, with the first coming on a three-run shot in the opening game and the second on a two-run shot in the nightcap.

"We gave up a few too many runs," St. Maries coach Todd Bitterman said. "We put a lot of girls on base, but we did a nice job of not letting them score. We only had two walks in the game and I can't complain when we pound out 19 and 18 hits in the game."

St. Maries (2-0, 2-0 IML) travels to Moscow on Thursday.

Post Falls defeats Richland, falls against Southridge

RICHLAND - Katie King had a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning to help push the Trojans past Richland 4-1 in a nonleague game.

Richelle Ashburn had 12 strikeouts in the opener and Bri Joseph two hits for Post Falls.

In the nightcap, Ashburn had two hits for the Trojan offense, but had a 1-0 game break open in the bottom of the fourth inning as Southridge pulled away with nine runs in the fourth and fifth inning.

"We kind of let it get away from us," Post Falls coach Jack Foster said. "We helped them a little bit and didn't play well in our last two innings."

Post Falls (4-2) travels to West Valley on Wednesday.

Hanley, Humphries take

consolation crown

LEWISTON - Area schools came up short in attempts to win a singles title, but one team did manage to bring home a fourth-place finish during the Lewiston/Clarkston tournament.

Rachel Hanley and Ryan Humphries of Coeur d'Alene won the consolation championship by going 3-0 to claim fourth place in mixed doubles play.

Mary Fisher, who played in the No. 3 singles for Coeur d'Alene, lost in the consolation finals.

COEUR d'ALENE - The top-ranked Bruins remained unbeaten on the season following 11-9 and 4-2 wins over the 20th-ranked Cardinals at Memorial Field in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Salt Lake (35-0, 23-0 SWAC) right fielder Kylee Bufton hit a three-run home run in a six run top of the third inning in an 11-9 win. Juliann Hartnett had a three-run home run in the bottom of the first for North Idaho.

North Idaho (21-15, 14-10) had solo home runs from Lauren Maloney and Briggett Plenger in the second game.

NIC will host Southern Nevada on Friday at Memorial Field.
