Coeur d'Alene High, Lake City students earn state BPA awards

Fourteen students from the Coeur d'Alene School District won awards at the state Business Professionals of America competition in Boise, qualifying them to compete at Nationals to be held in Anaheim, Calif., in May.

For the second year in a row, Lake City High students Alyssa Allen, Marie Burns and Taran Loper earned first place at state for Computer Animation Team. Burns also placed fifth in Fundamental Spreadsheets.

Other national qualifiers from LCHS include Jared Dibble and Chelsey Sampson, second place, Web site Design Team; Keifer Hofacker and Lloyd Castleberry, fourth and fifth respectively for Computer Security; Pat Hanlon, third for Economic Research Project Individual, and Nikki Webster, second in Administrative Support Research Project Individual. For the Visual Basic.NET event, Jake Davission placed second and Peter Lujan third. Dibble received first place for Fundamentals of Web Design and Holly Henson placed fourth.

Members of the LCHS BPA chapter who qualified for Nationals through Torch Awards are Pat Hanlon, Elizabeth Doherty, Chelsey Sampson, Colleen Orr and Megan Schultz.

Coeur d'Alene High School also sent a team to the state competition in Boise and had two students qualify for national competition. Vanessa Braun placed fourth in Fundamental Accounting and Computerized Accounting, and Jacob Braun placed in the top 10 in Computer Security Concepts.
