Kenneth Louis Strain

| March 18, 2010 4:51 AM

Oct. 8, 1922 - March 15, 2010

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and school teacher (37 years). Affectionately known as “Coach.”

He served in the Regular Army in WWII (Europe) receiving the Purple Heart and the Bronze Battle Star.

Ken’s greatest legacy to his descendants, for which we will be eternally grateful, is the cherishing, preserving and practicing the one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Faith established by Our Lord Jesus Christ to the end of time.

For your edification we are including a copy of The Greatest Wealth by Kenneth Strain:

Imagine all the hard work that the athletes put into preparing for the Olympics, with no guarantee of going home with a medal. There are also people who do the same thing to amass great fortunes. Some succeed; others don’t.

Why do people want fame and fortune? Why do people want so much money? To buy things for happiness. It isn’t there. If it brings pleasure, that is only short-lived.

There is a formula that will get you truly, penetrating, everlasting happiness: You begin with God’s Ten Commandments and obey them to the very best you can. To these you add the twelve scout laws: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean (of body and soul), and reverent. Then you can top it off with the cherry: the three theological virtues: Faith, Hope, and Charity, especially charity toward your neighbor.

To succeed you need some very powerful weapons. Firstly, there is determination, then self-control, and most of all, prayer.

If you succeed, then to the extent that your will is God’s Will, the peace of soul and happiness will fill your life to the extent that nothing bothers you and you have no worries. (I never even worried when I was in combat during WWII.) Warning: The more progress you make, the more intensely the Devil attacks.

I have, with God’s grace, come a long way over many years, but I still have a long way to go. The fight against the Devil will continue until I die.

Ken,

P.S. Nice things happen to nice people.

Ken is survived by three children (the other three preceded him in death), 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at Mary Immaculate Queen Church in Rathdrum and a funeral Mass will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, at the church.
