COEUR d'ALENE - Cole Boyer and Madison Leonard have a lot in common. They started kindergarten together at Hayden Meadows Elementary School, proceeded on to Canfield for middle school and then to Coeur d'Alene High.

In high school, both challenged themselves by taking a rigorous complement of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate classes while being involved in sports, school clubs and community activities. Both are on a path to graduate with an IB diploma.

On June 11, these best friends will share the podium at Coeur d'Alene High School's commencement exercises as valedictorian and salutatorian of their class.

Cole amassed a cumulative grade-point average of 4.52 to earn the top ranking among 335 students. Madison is close behind with a GPA of 4.44.

Born and raised in Hayden Lake, Cole has been involved with Viking Soccer for three years. He serves as senior class secretary/treasurer on the student council and is vice president of the National Honor Society. A co-founder of the Human Rights Club, he is active in Key Club and on the Scholastic Team. He was named a Hayden Lake Rotary Scholar of the Month, is chairman of the Mayor's Youth Council of Hayden and is Youth Commissioner on the Hayden Forestry Committee. He volunteers at Kootenai Medical Center. In his free time he enjoys running, biking and hiking.

Perhaps best known for winning the Idaho Junior Miss crown, Madison has been active in theater, varsity tennis, chamber orchestra, Scholastic Team, Human Rights Club, Idaho Drug Free Youth and Key Club. She served as a delegate to Girls State. A Boise State University Capital Scholar and an Idaho Top Scholar, Madison tutors younger students, teaches ballet and volunteers with Kids Theatre Camp. She is a senior student council representative and is active in her youth group. She enjoys skiing, reading, traveling, politics and foreign language study.
