COEUR d'ALENE - They're champs again.

For the second consecutive year, Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy's Academic team won the state championship at the Idaho National Laboratory's Scholastic Tournament in Boise.

The team was pitted against seven other schools in their size division, and by taking the top spot Wednesday, earned the right to represent Idaho at the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. in April.

The crown comes with a trip to the national contest with all expenses paid by the U.S. Department of Energy.

It is the third time in six years the Charter Academy team has earned the state title.

The quiz bowl-type competition includes a series of math and science questions, with the three division championship matches taped for broadcast at 5 p.m. Saturday on Idaho Public Television.

Lakeland High School in Rathdrum won the third-place spot in the large school division.

The U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that tests students' knowledge in all areas of science.
