Materials sought for history display

POST FALLS - Post Falls history groups and the city are seeking glass and lumber donations for a new history display in the Post Falls City Hall rotunda.

"We have roughed out some display options involving some of the Herborn (Germany) associate city artifacts that the city has received from 1991 to 2009," said Kim Brown of the Historical Society. "More importantly, we want to reach out to the public and get their help on integrating our local history into the display. Proposed components for the display include glass and wood."

Historic timber to reflect Post Falls' lumber heritage is being sought.

"Frederick Post, an immigrant from Herborn, set up the first commercial lumber operation in the region," Brown said. "After he sold the mill, lumber operations continued under a series of owners, until 1995, when Louisiana Pacific ceased operation. Some of the former mill owners homes still remain in Post Falls.

"Lumber from some of the mill operations may remain in Post Falls."

For more information, call Jeanne Herzog at 640-9315 or Kim Brown at 773-4681. All donors will be recognized and thanked.

Museum in need of store volunteers

COEUR d'ALENE - The Museum of North Idaho needs volunteers to staff the museum store.

"The skills needed are enjoying the public and a willingness to sell goods in support of the museum's operating fund," a press release said. "You don't have to have an encyclopedic knowledge of North Idaho as what's important can be learned on the job ... you'll have a whole museum as a reference."

The museum is open from April 1 to Oct. 31. Volunteers can opt for a regular day or as they are available. An orientation meeting is scheduled March 31.
