Montana L. Carter, 90

Montana L. (Showen) Carter, 90, of Bayview, Idaho, passed away March 12, 2010. She was born in Great Falls, Mont., on May 8, 1919, to George D. and Hattie L (Stevens) Showen.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with her parents in 1935 from Coffee Creek, Mont., and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1938.

During her lifetime, she was a charter member of the Toastmasters Club and the Coeur d’Alene Thespian Group, a member of Ladies’ Auxiliary 889 of Coeur d’Alene, the Coeur d’Alene Theatrical Group and a Democratic Committee Woman for Kootenai County.

During World War II, she was employed in the post office at Kodiak, Alaska, as well as the post office at Fort Mason Presidio in San Francisco. She was secretary for the International Woodworkers Union No. 119 in Coeur d’Alene for 16 years.

Montana was proceeded in death by her parents, two brothers LaRue J. and Lyie W. Showen and her husband, Edwin T. Carter.

Survivors include stepchildren, James (Jimmy) Winebrenner, Judy Cross, Craig Carter, Carol Carter  and Loren Carter; granddaughter Marsallai Quick, Nieces Ila Russell, Lois Holum, and nephew John Showen, along with a host of friends.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. At her request, cremation and no service will be held.
