Mary Marie Satran, 88

| March 16, 2010 4:31 AM

Mary Marie danced into Heavan, March 9, 2010, after a full life on Earth. She is happy to be with the Lord. She was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Jacksonville, Ark., to Dosia Corder Starkey and Charley B. Starkey.

She married Wallace E. Bouley, a soldier in the U.S. Army in 1942. He is the father of her two daughters, Charlotte and Cheri Bouley. Marie married Duane Ardell Satran of Spokane, Wash., in 1978. Her brother, John V. Starkey of Fayetteville, Ark., is her only surviving sibling.

Marie, whose early nickname was “Lucky,” was blessed with an extended family and many friends who brought joy to her life. She was also called “Mom” by the family of Jim Oxford.

She was a member of Valley Baptist Church in Spokane Valley, Wash., and the VFW Auxiliary in Spokane Valley. Marie enjoyed dancing, fishing, gardening, museums, movies and reading. She was a positive, beautiful gift to the world, and knew that to love and be loved was one’s greatest success.

In her jewelry box was found a poem that she had adapted and left for her family to find:

Be Happy I Am

Do not weep and do not cry, I am alive, I did not die.

I am a thousand winds that blow; I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain; I am the gentle autumn’s rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush; I am the swift uplifting rush

of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft star that shines at night.

Do not weep, do not cry, I am alive, I did not die. Be happy I am.
