Derek Lamely emerged out of the pack with easygoing style, shooting a 66 Monday to win the PGA Puerto Rico Open by two strokes in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

He finished at 19-under-par 269, setting a tournament record at Trump International Golf Club-Puerto Rico, a scenic palm-fringed 7,526-yard course which was deluged by rain early in the competition. Kris Blanks shot a 69 and finished alone in second at 271.

Baseball

Seattle ace Cliff Lee was tossed from a exhibition game in Tucson, Ariz, for allegedly throwing at the Arizona's Chris Snyder in the Diamondbacks' 13-5 win.

Mike Sweeney kept up that phenomenal hitting that could earn him a spot on the Mariners' opening day roster. As the designated hitter, he went 3 for 4 with a double, a performance that actually dropped his spring batting average to .765 (13 for 17).

Football

The Seattle Seahawks re-signed defensive end Darryl Tapp and released starting safety Deon Grant, part of the continuing changes under new coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider.

Tapp played in 16 games last year with 49 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks and a forced fumble. He has 18 sacks in his four seasons with Seattle.

Grant started all 48 games during his three seasons in Seattle and has started 144 consecutive games. Grant had 78 tackles and three interceptions last season.

n The San Francisco 49ers signed free agent quarterback David Carr to a two-year deal and agreed to terms with Detroit on a trade that would send backup quarterback Shaun Hill to the Lions for a 2011 draft pick.

Basketball

Iowa fired coach Todd Lickliter, who had four years left on a seven-year contract that paid him $1.2 million a year.

The Hawkeyes, who had just two upperclassmen play significant minutes, finished the season 10-22 - their first with 20 losses. In all, Lickliter was 38-58 with Iowa.

Celtics 119, Pistons 93: Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Michael Finley scored 15 points apiece, and host Boston beat Detroit.

Knicks 94, 76ers 84: Danilo Gallinari scored 21 points and visiting New York beat Philadelphia.

Jazz 112, Wizards 89: At Salt Lake City, Carlos Boozer scored 23 points and Utah beat Washington.

Rockets 125, Nuggets 123: Aaron Brooks swished a jumper with 2.9 seconds left and scored 31 points to help host Houston over Denver.

Hornets 108, Clippers 100: David West scored 24 points and visiting New Orleans beat Los Angeles.

Lakers 124, Warriors 121: At Oakland, Calif., Kobe Bryant scored 29 points and Pau Gasol added 26 to lead Los Angeles over Golden State.

Devils 3, Bruins 2: At Newark, N.J., David Clarkson had a goal and an assist to help New Jersey over Boston.

Blue Jackets 5, Oilers 3: Antoine Vermette had two assists and scored the clinching empty-netter to lead host Columbus past Edmonton.

Red Wings 2, Flames 1: Tomas Holmstrom scored his 20th goal of the season and visiting Detroit beat Calgary.

Sled Dog Racing

Lance Mackey was the first out of the checkpoint of Elim, 123 miles from the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race finish line in Nome and 28 miles from the next checkpoint at the Inupiat Eskimo village of Golovin.
