SCHOOLS: Feeling pain of deep cuts

| March 15, 2010 7:49 AM

The article in last Sunday’s Press about education cuts got me a little upset. I have several friends who are teachers in CDA and Post Falls. I learned that Post Falls School District Is trying to get teachers to drop out of the union so that the ratio drops low enough that they will have no union representation. And the concensus is that the strong-arm tactic they are using will probably succeed. Cutting teacher salaries by 5 percent across the board being the big one.

I grew up in Post Falls and attended schools in Post Falls all the way through high school. There was a time when Post Falls was known as having the best teachers and education system in North Idaho. The school district used to be able to get the voters to approve any levy they put on the ballot.

The Post Falls School District has continually screwed the citizens of Post Falls to the point that the citzens are tired of it. So what is their solution when things get tight? Let’s cut the salaries of the great teachers we have now and send them off to teach elsewhere. I guess it is politics as usual and yet Jerry Keane gets to drive around in a new car.
