POST FALLS - Richelle Ashburn struck out 11 Lakeland batters in five innings of work, allowing one walk and no hits in the Trojans' 3-0 win over the Hawks in the Inland Empire League opener for both teams.

"It was a great day for softball," Post Falls coach Jack Foster said. "I don't remember getting our first game (of the season) in at home before."

Heidi Mueller had an RBI single in the first inning, and freshman Rachel Collins' two-run double in the six provided the offense. Collins relieved Ashburn and struck out two in her two innings for Post Falls (1-0), which hosts Lake City today at 4.

"It was good start for Ashburn," Foster said, "and Collins did well in her first varsity game."

Chelsea Campbell had a single for Lakeland (0-1), which hosts Timberlake on Thursday.

POST FALLS - The Trojans gathered 10 hits and Cody Clark fanned nine Lakeland hitters in both teams' IEL opener.

Clark allowed four walks in six innings and Nick Berger came in to get the save in the seventh.

The Hawks' lone run came on Tyler Ogden's two-out RBI single in the first inning.

"We played very well in the field," Post Falls coach Mick Zeller said. "I thought Clark threw a great game - he kept them off balance. For his first outing, we'll take that."

Post Falls plays at Lake City (1-0) today at 3:30, and Lakeland (0-1) hosts the Timberwolves on Thursday.
