Goedde seeks to retain District 4 Senate seat

COEUR d'ALENE - Sen. John Goedde is running again.

The Republican announced his candidacy Monday for State Senate District 4.

"It's an honor to serve Coeur d'Alene, Fernan and Kootenai County and I believe I have been very effective in ensuring the views and opinions of Kootenai residents are heard," he said.

"As chairman of the Education Committee I am committed to my role in making public education more effective by establishing a statewide evaluation program for teachers. We have been able to focus on professional development in areas which need improvement and give teachers the tools they need to be effective in the classroom."

First elected in 2000, Goedde also is a member of Senate Commerce & Human Resources and co-chairs the Economic Outlook and Revenue Assessment Committee. He is a vice chairman of the National Conference of State Legislatures Education Committee.

Kootenai County Republican Party Chairman Brad Corkill said he is glad Goedde is running.

"He has proven himself to be an excellent legislator and leader," he said.

Lt. Gov. Brad Little has worked with Goedde 10 years. He said he has "always served professionally - looking out for the interests of Coeur d'Alene by maximizing opportunity for his constituents and following solid Republican principles."

Goedde is a graduate of Washington State University, has a wife, Terri, and a son, Brian. He is a property/casualty insurance agent.
