Officers OK after apartment fire

COEUR d’ALENE — Four Coeur d’Alene Police Department officers were treated and released from Kootenai Medical Center for smoke inhalation after responding to an apartment fire just before midnight Saturday.

The apartment fire was at 3016 Government Way, police said.

When police arrived, heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the apartment.

Officers on scene were able to assist a disabled female neighbor to safety as her apartment was starting to fill with smoke, police said. Other residents in the apartment building were assisted to safety.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, police said.
