John David Kunz, 90

John David Kunz, 90, loving husband, father, grandfather and cowboy who will be missed by his family and many friends, passed away March 10, 2010, at home in Dalton Gardens, Idaho. Born Christian John Kunz March 3, 1920, in Kellogg, Idaho. To Christian and Anna Kunz.

He graduated from Kellogg High School in 1938. Served in the Boy Scouts Of America attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. John married Verna E. Morris on Feb. 22, 1941, in Superior, Mont. He served in the Marine Corp. from 1944-1946 and during WWII in Japan. After honorable discharge, he returned to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

He was the Assistant Manager for Idaho First National Bank working there for 18 years in the Coeur d’Alene, Orofino and Kellogg branches. John served on the Dalton City Council in Dalton Gardens for many years. He later owned and operated Reliance Realty in Coeur d’Alene until his retirement in the early ’80s.

John enjoyed singing in the chorus with the Elks Club. He was a cowboy and also loved fishing, hunting, horseback riding. Enjoyed his many trips to the Bob Marshall Wilderness area in Montana.

John is survived by his son, Charles and wife Be Kunz of Post Falls, Idaho; daughters Sharron Rogers and Diane Kiebert, both of Coeur d’Alene; grandchildren, Kelly Wirth, Darsi Eastman, Travis Kiebert, Kiley Kiebert, Jamie Kunz, John Kunz, Shaun Kunz and Hether Young; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Barbara (Ron) Good, Nieces, Mary Eastman, Claudia Richter, Jocelyn McCollum; nephews, Eric Appelberg, Brian and Russell Giles.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister Violet, brother Charles and son Brad Kunz.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.

A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. A reception will follow the service at the family home, 7920 Mt. Carroll, Dalton Gardens.
