Animal cruelty case still under investigation

| March 12, 2010 8:00 PM

OSBURN - Law enforcement continues to investigate the death of a dog last month.

The animal, a possible shepherd mix, had been found shot with several fluorescent yellow and white ST Epic 400 arrows and tied to a tree near Two Mile, north of Osburn.

Shoshone County Prosecuting Attorney Val Siegel said the crime falls under cruelty to animal charges - which carries different punishments.

For a first offense, Siegel said it would be punishable up to six months in jail with a $5,000 fine. A second offense may be nine months in jail with a $7,000 fine, he said, and third or subsequent offenses go for one year in jail with a $9,000 fine.

Shoshone Humane Society has offered a $500 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

Captain Jeremy Groves of the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office said deputies are working with animal control to determine who owned the arrows that were imbedded in the dog.
