n SWIMMING

The Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team: CAST finished fourth out of 15 teams at the Inland Empire 14-and-under swimming championships Feb. 12-14 in Moscow. CAST swimmers notched 149 personal records out of 183 individual races.

Individual highlights included 100 percent personal records by Dillon Johnson, Pete Bauman, Joel Brown, Samantha Cundieff, Lucia de Tar, Avery Gephart, Katie Gribbin, Baeley Hathaway, Jacob Lockhart, Bailey Mote, Cormac O’Hara and Jessica Penney.

Johnson received the second place high-point award for cumulative points in the 13-14 year old age group. The team of Walker Bowen, Joel Brown, Ben McNeil and Marcus Rozier won the 10-and-under 200 medley relay.

n SOCCER

Thunder under-15 boys: The Thunder traveled to Boise over the weekend to complete in District 3 league play. Team Thunder is the only North Idaho team to play in the Boise region league. Team Thunder defeated the Boise Nationals 2-1 and the Idaho Rush 2-1 in league play Saturday to start the season 2-0. Team Thunder travels to Boise every other weekend to compete in the District 3 league.

Viks help Falcons: Helped by three members of the Coeur d’Alene High girls soccer team, the Spokane Falcons Elite U19 team won the championship in their division at the Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup International Showcase last weekend.

The Falcons went 4-0-1 in the tourney, beating Langley of Canada 1-0 in the championship match. Spokane outscored its opponents 7-1 in the five games.

The Falcons are made of players from Coeur d’Alene, University, Central Valley, East Valley, Ferris, Mead and Deer Park high schools.

Rachel Crawford, Kelsey Kinkle and Whitney Wood of Coeur d’Alene played on the team. Kinkle and Crawford earned praise from coaches for their play in the defending third.

Wood scored two goals and had two assists, including the game winner in the championship match.
