LCHS lists top graduates

Lake City High School has announced its valedictorians and salutatorians for the graduating class of 2010.

Stephen Shepherd and Ben Cooper share the valedictorian honors, while Lara Zipperer and Leah Meyerholtz are co-salutatorians. All four are in the International Baccalaureate diploma program. They will speak at their school's commencement ceremonies on June 12.

Shepherd and Cooper have both maintained a 4.4 cumulative grade-point average while taking Lake City's most rigorous coursework.

The son of David and Julie Shepherd, Stephen has been active in student government and is currently student body vice president. He is an accomplished musician, a Renaissance student, Idaho Top Scholar and member of National Honor Society. He belongs to swim team, ski club, Idaho Drug Free Youth and is a tutor in the Teen Aid program. An Eagle Scout, he volunteers at Ramsey Elementary and in his church. He plans to pursue a degree in medicine or dentistry and someday teach at the college level in one of those health areas.

Ben, the son of Phil and Kathleen Cooper, is an officer in National Honor Society, an Idaho Top Scholar and AP Scholar with honors. He has received many awards in debate and in BPA (Business Professionals of America.) He is captain of the swim team, president of Key Club and active in YVA, Idaho Drug Free Youth and Student Council. He is a Teen Aid tutor and a freshmen mentor. He is also active in 4-H and loves to cook, hunt and fish. He plans to major in political science, business, or environmental studies.

An accomplished harpist and pianist, Lara has been involved with Spokane Youth Orchestra throughout high school. She is a member of National Honor Society, an Idaho Top Scholar and a recipient of the Earthwatch Student Challenge Award. She volunteers at Sorensen Elementary School, loves to hike, run cross-country and play keyboard in her church band. The daughter of James and Diane Zipperer, Lara plans to attend college to pursue studies in statistics or pre-med.

Leah's activities include school plays and musicals, vocal training and classical ballet. A member of the International Thespian Society, she recently earned a third place at state drama. She also received an Art on the Green award for her artistic abilities. Leah is an active volunteer in her church and youth group. The daughter of Bill and Sally Meyerholtz, Leah plans to major in agricultural engineering, biblical archaeology or anthropology.
