Clifford Duane Renner, 76

| March 6, 2010 3:45 AM

Clifford Duane Renner, 76, Carlin Bay resident, died March 1, 2010, at his home with his family at his side. Cliff was born April 22, 1933, to Floyd Gertrude Renner in Miller, S.D.

The family moved to Carlin Bay in 1937. He attended the lower Carlin Grade School and high school in Harrison.

In July 1950, Cliff joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in January 1954.

While in the Navy, Cliff met Doris Brown of Hayward, Calif. They married Nov. 14, 1953, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They made their home with their four children in North Idaho, primarily in Carlin Bay and Dalton Gardens.

Cliff worked most of his life in the timber industry. He worked as a logger for various contractors in the Coeur d’Alene area. In 1967, he attended North Idaho College, graduating with a degree in Forestry Engineering. After completion, he went to work for Diamond International where he worked as a woods boss at Nordman, Idaho.

In 1971, he was transferred to Coeur d’Alene where he worked as Assistant Logging Superintendent and later land buyer until he left Diamond International. After leaving, he started a timber consulting business; his youngest daughter Shelly has fond memories of working alongside him. In 1977, he started a business as an independent logging contractor with his son David which he worked until he retired. After retirement, he served as a commissioner for the Lakes Highway District.

Cliff enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife Doris. He loved being in the woods. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was never too busy for his family. His kids remember him as loving life and living it to the fullest.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his mother and father; sisters Beverly Lefford and Phyllis Briggs; and brother Gerald Renner.

He will be greatly missed by son and daughter-in-law David and Cathy Renner of Carlin Bay; daughters and sons-in-law Sue and Wade Parkin of St. Maries, Idaho, Laurie and Lynn Nowland of Blanchard, Idaho, and Shelly and Paul Tappen of Delta Junction, Alaska; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and siblings Carol Bass, Kenneth Renner and Pauline Pankratz.

At Cliff’s request, private family graveside services were held March 4, 2010, at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens, where he was entered to rest with his wife. Cliff’s grandson Bryan Tappen officiated.

The children would like to thank the Hospice of North Idaho for the loving care given to both their parents. Please visit Cliff’s memorial and sign his online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
