Christian Center School fundraiser is March 12

HAYDEN - A fundraiser for Christian Center School is March 12. The school will be hosting its annual live and silent auction, Mexican dinner and a fun evening.

Items up for bid include a fishing trip for four to Priest Lake, $500 skidsteer rental, catered Bobby-Q dinner for 20 people, 30-40 of beef and pork and Buck Knives numbered & signed by Chuck Buck w/ ivory & mastadon handle. Raffle tickets will also be sold for a night's stay at The Coeur d'Alene Resort and a $100 dining credit.

CCS opened its doors in Hayden in 1979, offering an academic program for preschool through the 12th grade.

"The goal is to disciple a generation that loves God, honors family, builds the church, and reaches the lost," according to a press release. "In the day and age that we live in, there are numerous challenges we face as parents to ensure the well-being and protection of our children. We recognize the decisions you face today have a lasting affect on your child's future. Their education is one of those most important decisions."

NIC newspaper brings home first-place award

The Sentinel, the student-produced newspaper at North Idaho College, won first place for general excellence for two-year college newspapers at the Associated Collegiate Press national convention on Feb. 28 in Phoenix, Ariz.

Eli Francovich of Post Falls is the managing editor of the staff of 40 students with The Sentinel. Sentinel adviser and journalism instructor is Nils Rosdahl.

About 400 students and advisers from about 50 colleges and universities attended the convention.

A graduate of Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy, Francovich also is a writing intern for the NIC College Relations Department. He is the son of Chris and Karen Francovich of Post Falls.

Police: $3,000 in pool cues stolen

COEUR d'ALENE - A Coeur d'Alene man reported the theft of $3,000 worth of pool cues from his home.

According to a police report, the victim told his roommate he was moving out of their house in the 2400 block of North 13th Street.

On Thursday, he made a trip with his belongings to his new residence and left his pool sticks on his bed. When he returned that afternoon, he said the pool sticks were gone.

Missing was a 1988 McDermott HD-2 valued at $1,050, a 1996 Predator worth $950, a Meucci HOF worth $700, along with a few more cues, cases and accessories.

The victim told police he believes he knows who took the pool sticks because they knew how important they were to him.

Passport fair scheduled today

COEUR D'ALENE - A Passport Fair is set for today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene post office, 111 N. Seventh St.

Passport fees are separate payments of $75 for age 16 and older or $60 for minors younger than 16. This fee must be paid by check or money order payable to the Department of State.

An execution fee of $25 per applicant may be paid with cash, check, credit or debit card to USPS. Passport photos are available for an additional $15.

Passport Card applications will also be accepted. The cards cost $10 for individuals younger than 16 and $20 for those older the age of 16, and an execution fee of $25.
