What pain isn't telling you

I think it is safe to say that we all know the feeling of pain. It can come in many forms, in many places, and last for days, weeks, or even years. There is one thing that is always evident when we start feeling pain. Something is wrong.

However, pain is not the only indicator that something is wrong within our bodies. In fact, only a small percentage of your nervous system is able to relay the sensation of pain to your brain. This means that dysfunction could be happening within your body that does not create any pain at all, but still causes problems.

When we talk about the spine, pain is almost always the last symptom we feel when something has gone haywire. Most of the time, the problems sprouting up in our backs and necks around the spine are present long before we ever "feel" them. Ultimately, the pain response can come from weeks, months, or years of degeneration that never cause the symptom of pain until most of the damage has already happened.

In terms of chiropractic care and the overall health of your nervous system, it is important to be analyzed by a professional in order to alleviate problems with spinal bones that are out of place. When spinal bones move out of place from injury or stress, they are called subluxations. These subluxations create interference in the nerve pathways that run through your spine. Essentially, this interference can cause your cells, organs, and tissues to miss messages from the brain.

When your body starts missing messages, there are many negative outcomes that can drastically affect your health. While a subluxation in the spine might not cause pain, it may cause other problems throughout the body for years before it is ever discovered.

Such things as hypertension, sciatica, blindness, asthma, colic, ear infection, ADD/ADHD, infertility, headaches, migraines, and reduced immune system response are just a few of the things that might come from nervous system interference. Each and every problem listed above has been successfully treated by a chiropractor and documented within research studies.

Pain is most often the last symptom we experience when it comes to health problems. Unfortunately, pain is often the thing we wait to feel before we take the proper steps to maintain our health.

Chiropractic focuses on addressing problems stemming from the spine before they ever have a chance to "hurt." Why wait for pain, when you can simply avoid ever feeling it at all?

By finding and correcting subluxations within the spine that are diminishing the function of the nervous system, not only will you be able to live without pain, but you will see increased function within the body, often alleviating or preventing other health concerns.
