SHOLEH: Republic a worthy example

Sholeh, what the heck are you talking about? When I first read the piece “Democracy requires civic engagement” I simply dismissed it. What prompted me to respond was my wife bringing it up saying it made no sense.

Instead of bashing us for not knowing the names of heads of countries (useless unless you are playing a trivia game), why not start with the difference between a democracy and a republic? This country is supposed to be the latter. Maybe you were being sly as the current state of affairs does look like a democracy. It has been a long time since I felt that our elected representatives were acting with the best interests of the country in mind and operating within the law instead of making it up on the fly.
