Prairie drops two at Best of Northwest

SPOKANE - Twin City catcher Jarrod Turner hit an RBI double in the fifth inning to give the Titans from Kennewick and Richland, Wash., the lead for good in a 6-3 win over the Prairie Cardinals in the Best of the Northwest wood bat tournament at Central Valley High on Friday.

"The first game was a real good ball game," Prairie coach Dustin Frank said. "We were up in the fourth inning and had them on the ropes, then we gave them some runs on errors."

Tony Davidson had an RBI single and Cody VanDuyne had three hits for Prairie in the first game.

In the second game of the day, Diamond Players pitcher Alex Robinett tossed a one-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over Prairie.

Peter Valentine and Danny Urness had two-run singles for Diamond Players, comprised of players from Oregon and Washington.

Tyler Burnett had the Cardinals' (6-13) lone hit in the second game.

Prairie continues tournament play today at 11 a.m.

Lums fall twice

at Omaha tourney

OMAHA, Neb. - The Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen dropped a pair of games Friday in the Decker Sports College World Series tournament.

In the first game, Coeur d'Alene and the Deeb Mustangs combined for 37 hits and 41 runs as the Mustangs of Omaha defeated the Lumbermen 21-20.

Coeur d'Alene fell to the Shockers of San Mateo, Calif., 16-6 in six innings in its second game of the day.

Further details were not available.

Coeur d'Alene, 1-3 in tourney play, faces Dakota Ridge High School of Littleton, Colo., today.
