Small plane with engine problems lands at NY beach

| June 25, 2010 2:44 PM

A busy beach day in New York's Long Island has been interrupted by the crash landing of a small airplane.

No one on the ground was injured in Friday's crash at Robert Moses State Park in Babylon, about 35 miles east of New York City.

State parks department Deputy Regional Director George Gorman says the pilot has been taken to a hospital. No information on the pilot's condition is available.

Gorman says the single-engine plane landed in the sand not far from a boardwalk.

The Federal Aviation Administration tells the Newsday newspaper the pilot had reported engine trouble and was directed to make a water landing but overshot the water and landed on the beach.
