KELLOGG - Silver Mountain's picturesque Galena Ridge Golf Course is open.

Located one mile east of the resort at McKinley Avenue and Galena Ridge Drive, nine of the projected 18 holes were completed and opened to the public Sunday.

Silver Mountain Marketing Director John Williams said the dramatic elevation changes is what makes the Galena Ridge Golf Course stand out.

"It is truly a mountain course," Williams said.

Built on the side of the mountain, several holes drop in excess of 100 feet from the tee. Williams said that the course is also just off the valley floor, providing golfers with a view for miles in every direction.

Friendly for golfers of all skill levels, the course offers four options per hole.

The main event to celebrate Galena Ridge's opening is a June 25 tournament that feature 23 teams competing in two-person best ball for prizes on the freshly-sculpted greens of the course.

Registration is $75 per person. Ten teams have already signed up for the tournament. At least one team member must be a Shoshone County resident.

The course will be open this season through the first weekend of October. Green fees will be $32 for nine holes. This includes a golf cart, which is mandatory.

"It's been a long time coming," Williams said. "The other nine holes are already planned."

The final nine holes are projected to be completed within the next year or two, Williams said. Green fees for 18 holes will be $56.

The Galena Ridge Golf Course also offers a twilight fee.

After 3 p.m. golfers can play as many holes as they can before dark for $32. Also, after 3 p.m. youth under 17 play for free, accompanied by a paying adult.

"We want to try to encourage locals and the community to play the course," Williams said.
