Board to select new trustee

| June 19, 2010 9:00 PM

The Coeur d'Alene School District's newest trustee will be selected Monday.

The board will meet at 5 p.m. at the Midtown Center, 1505 N. Fifth St., to vote on a candidate for appointment to the Zone 2 seat being vacated by Vern Newby.

The candidate selected will serve by appointment through July 2011, and will have to win a May election to continue further in the position.

Coeur d'Alene School District trustees are considering three candidates for appointment to the school board seat left open.

Remaining trustees on the five-member board have interviewed three women who live in Zone 2 - Stephanie Powers, Angie Phillips and Patricia House. Each candidate has served previously on the school district's Long Range Planning Committee. The newly appointed trustee will serve until July 2011.

A date has not yet been set for the board to hold a special meeting to vote on a candidate, but it will likely happen soon so the new trustee can be sworn in at the next regular monthly board meeting on July 12.

Longtime trustee Newby announced his resignation last month. It becomes effective June 30 and leaves one year of his term open. The new candidate will have to be elected in May to remain in the position.
