A.M. Briefing: Appointees aplenty

| June 17, 2010 8:05 AM

The Coeur d'Alene School District's newest trustee will be selected Monday.

The board will meet at 5 p.m. at the Midtown Center, 1505 N. 5th St., to vote on a candidate for appointment to the Zone 2 seat being vacated by Vern Newby.

The candidate selected will serve by appointment through July 2011, and will have to win a May election to continue further in the position.

Of the four remaining trustees on the five-member board, three were appointed prior to being elected to their seats.

*Board chair Edie Brooks was elected in 1996 to the Zone 4 chair she held for eight years. After moving to Zone 1, Brooks ran for and won election to that seat in 2006. Voters elected her to another term in 2009.

* Bill Hemenway was appointed in 2008 to complete the last year of Christie Wood's term in the Zone 3 seat. Wood resigned before the June 30 end of that fiscal year.

Wood was appointed to that seat in 1999 following now Sen. John Goedde's resignation from the position, and held onto the seat for three elections before her resignation.

Hemenway was elected in 2009 to serve the rest of Wood's term.

The seat opens up for election in May 2011.

* Diane Zipperer was appointed to the Zone 4 seat in 2004 and elected to serve a term in 2005 and again in 2008.

* Sid Fredrickson was appointed to the Zone 5 seat in 2002 and was elected to serve a term in 2005 and again in 2008.
