Wood to sign new book at Hastings

| June 11, 2010 9:00 PM

Ryan Wood will be signing copies of his new book, "A Teacher's Guide to Being Slightly Above Average," from 1-4 p.m. on June 26 at Hastings in Coeur d'Alene.

Wood, a Silver Valley native, will also be speaking at a convention in Worley on June 14, and signing books on June 14 and June 15.

Wood's first three books, "Growing Up Pine Creek," "Brushfits and Other Woodsmen Maneuvers" and "The Pine Creek Tributaries" - recount stories from his childhood and early life in the valley.

His new book takes a new direction as he shares stories from his professional life as a teacher within the St. Maries School District for 10 years and currently the Post Falls School District.

"It was a little more challenging to write this," Wood said. He considers himself more of a storyteller with an editor than an author. It may be easy to tell funny stories verbally, but Wood said to write them in a book is difficult without the advantage of watching the audience's reaction and giving the proper timing and delivery.
