Elsie V. Chaney, 94

Elsie V. Chaney, 94, of Coeur d’Alene (formerly of the Silver Valley) passed away June 9, 2010, at the Coeur d’Alene Homes Assisted Living Facility in Coeur d’Alene. She was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Kingston. Elsie was the daughter of Scotty and Pearl (Smith) McGillivray.

Elsie had lived her entire life in the Silver Valley except for a few years in Coeur d’Alene. She married Don Chaney on June 30, 1936. Don preceded her in death in 1950.

Elsie had served as a postal worker in Smelterville for many years, until her retirement. She loved and enjoyed her family, knitting, crocheting and bowling.

Elsie is survived by eight grandchildren, Christie Barker of Dalton Gardens, Don Stoner of Spring Creek, Nev., Rob Stoner of Spring Creek, Lyal Purinton of Buxton, Ore., Tami Simpson of Coeur d’Alene, Stephany Freeman of Coeur d’Alene, Randy Chaney of Post Falls and Danny Chaney of Electric City, Wash. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece, Sharon Wombolt of Coeur d’Alene.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Chaney in 1950; two children, Judy Caldwell and Maurice Chaney; one grandson, Larry Chaney; three brothers, Alvin McGillivray, Duncan McGillivray and Frank McGillivray; and two sisters, Vi Brown and Blanche Bircher.

Cremation was held and memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pinehurst, with Rev. Ken Bartle officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Hunt Cemetery in Kingston. 

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Kootenai Medical Center Van service c/o the Kootenai Medical Center of Coeur d’Alene or to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.
