Ruby Doris Morton Floyd Ransom, 84

On June 6, 2010, Ruby Doris Morton Floyd Ransom went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after an eight-month illness. She was born June 28, 1925, to Walter Thomas and Mattie May Morton in Evansville, Ind.

Her mother died when she was only 8 days old. A year later Walter married Laura Cox who was a wonderful mother to her. She grew up in the depression, but living on a small farm they always had what they needed. Ruby was an avid reader and loved learning — she especially enjoyed literature. She heard about Jesus Christ and her interest was piqued and she began trying to find out who this Jesus was.

After finding a Gideon’s pamphlet containing the book of Psalms and the Gospel of John which she read many times and when in the eighth grade she trusted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Upon graduation in 1943 she worked at Hoosier Cardinal Defense Factory in Evansville as a Wing Driller on B-29 Bombers.

She met George G. Floyd toward the end of World War II and on Dec. 22, 1945, they were married. They had five children and on June 16, 1955, he died from a heart attack.

Ruby continued her education at the University of Indiana at Evansville. Soon after this she met Ernie Ransom arid moved to Coeur d’Alene and was married Dec. 10, 1965. Ernie and Ruby’ had one child.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, husband George G. Floyd, brother Truman Morton, sisters Lorraine and Lillian Morton and son Jonathan Fay Ransom.

Ruby is survived by husband Ernie Ransom at home; daughters Doris M. Hogenmiller, Nancy S. Hunt, Sarah A. Floyd; sons David G. Floyd, Jacob G. Floyd; grandchildren Ed Moran, Kathleen Prosch, Kara Mooney, Jamie Hunt, Jeff Hunt, Jeremy Hunt, Kyla Schrock, Kendra Hunt, Teresa Walker, Marjory Roddick, Danielle Gibbs, George Floyd, Rhael Ransom and 32 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Grace Bible Church, 152 W. Prairie Ave. Between Highway 95 and Government Way.
