Nominate for grand marshal

| June 10, 2010 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the next grand marshal to lead the Fourth of July parade down Sherman Avenue this Independence Day.

"There are a lot of people in the community who are very deserving, who work behind the scenes, and that's who we're looking for," said Brenda Young, chamber events manager.

Longtime Kootenai County residents whose energy, expertise, wisdom and volunteerism has helped mold North Idaho should be considered, but the stars and stripes theme of Fourth of July shouldn't be overlooked, either. Veterans are always worthy of leading the patriotic parade, Young said.

No official form needs to be filled out, just submit an e-mail or letter to the chamber outlining the reasons for nominating Mr. or Mrs. Marshal. Those nominations must be in by Monday, June 21.

The parade leader will ride atop a yet-to-be selected sweet piece of vehicle as the procession cruises down Sherman Avenue before ending at Government Way near City Park.

If you're worried all your community give-back has been overlooked, don't be. You can nominate yourself.
