Dog park ceremony set for Monday

| June 9, 2010 9:00 PM

COEUR d’ALENE — Tails will be wagging Monday as the Kootenai County Dog Park Association commemorates groundbreaking for its long-waited Dog Park.

The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. at the corner of Atlas Road and Nez Perce Road at the designated site of the dog-friendly facility.

Organizer Bob Knechtel announced that the Kootenai County Dog Park Association recently passed its $24,000 fund-raising goal to begin installing items such as dog waste stations, a separate small dog area and doggy drinking fountains.

The association also plans to install pet-friendly landscaping, irrigation and benches and tables for human comfort.

Additional contributions will be sought to cover ongoing upkeep costs.

The two acre Dog Park has not yet been named.

Members of the KC Dog Park Association, donors and city officials will be on hand to turn spades, with a little help from their canine companions.

The dog park completion and “leash-cutting” is anticipated for the Labor Day Weekend.
