SPILL: Press should play up big stories
I would prefer to be able to say I was surprised that a big national story (the oil spewing into the Gulf of Mexico finally stopped) was relegated to the back page of the paper. Unfortunately I am not surprised. That was big news and you blew it, again.
The Rod Run (which I am attending), Rathdrum Days, or the Four Seasons Wedding could have still had their space but possibly smaller and continued on the back page. Did you possibly think that the oil spill doesn’t affect anyone around here and it just didn’t matter as much? You may be surprised just how many local people are personally affected by the spill and have been waiting and praying to see this news.
Could we find other sources for the information? Yes. Should we expect The Press to do a better job in ranking and prioritizing serious news. Yes. That is what we pay you for.
