ROSES: Potentially thorny issue explained

| July 21, 2010 10:00 PM

After reading Mr. John Lincoln's wanderings about the beach and my ability to maintain my balance for long periods of time while pruning roses, I thought an explanation might be in order.

My grandparents immigrated to Idaho in 1905 from Calabria, in southern Italy. This area of Italy is not only famous for its beautiful, well trimmed roses, but also for the extremely talented circus acrobats that tour the area.

My grandmother, Frances Lococo, rest her soul, could prune roses for a full three hours while standing on one leg. Although she had to change legs after an hour and a half.

Buon giorno!
