Charges amended against man after woman dies

TWIN FALLS (AP) - Authorities in southern Idaho say criminal charges of aggravated battery been changed to first-degree murder against a man accused of shooting his girlfriend after the woman died.

Twin Falls County prosecutors amended the charges against Thomas Trevino Jr. on Friday following the death of 24-year-old Jill Gelever on Thursday at an area hospital.

Police say Trevino shot Gelever July 5 at the Twin Falls Comfort Inn & Suites.

Police say that after the shooting Trevino fled Idaho but was arrested days later in Mesa County, Colorado.

Trevino on Thursday waived extradition to Idaho, but it's unclear when he will be returned to Idaho.

A scheduling date has not been set for his first appearance in 5th District Court in Twin Falls.
