'Mac,' Marvin E. McDonald, 69

| July 14, 2010 6:40 AM

Marvin Eugene McDonald better known as Mac, Mac daddy, Marv, Gramps and the whoosh man passed away on July 11, 2010. He was born in Sparta, Ill., to Eugene and Pauline McDonald. His father died when he was very young and Harry Shelton became his stepfather.

After school in Sparta, Mac served in the United States Navy for four years, where he met and married his wife of 49 years, Terry Laabs McDonald.

In 1961 they moved to Coeur d'Alene to begin their lives together. He worked at several sawmills, but found his place at the Idaho Department of Transportation and worked there for 31 years, making many good friends.

Throughout his journey, he fell in love with Idaho; this was his home. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting, and going to races and basketball games for his grandchildren. Mac was a man that could make you smile and laugh, he will forever be in our hearts and never forgotten.

He is survived by his wife, Terry in Post Falls; daughters Stacy Akers and son-in-law Ernie, Nikki Buchmann and son-in-law Cu, both of Rathdrum; grandchildren include, Nieko and Neena Buchmann, Brady "Mac" Brunner, Tysen Akers, all of Rathdrum, Casy and Megan Akers with Mailee, the first great-grandchild, of Post Falls.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather and sister, Gloria.

At his request we will not be holding a service, therefore a celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2010, for his family and friends at Stub Meyer Park in Rathdrum. Please join us for a potluck, to remember him and the good times we shared.
