Cinderella is a family affair
Coeur d'Alene Summer Theater-goers on Saturday night were for the most part unaware that in the audience watching his sisters, Ellen, Margaret and Ann perform in "Cinderella" was John Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston.Travolta's Gulfstream landed at the Coeur d'Alene Airport on Friday and after spending a weekend with the family they headed back to Florida. All six Travolta siblings, including Joey and Sam, were together in the Lake City.
There are still some tickets available for the remainder of the "Cinderella" run at the theater this coming week and I've heard nothing but raves for the entire cast.***
Coeur d'Alene City Councilwoman Deanna Goodlander just might have used up five of her nine lives last week. But she did everything right to survive her coronary scare. When Deanna began experiencing symptoms of an impending heart attack she sought medical attention immediately. Thank God and the Kootenai Health ER staff that she was in exactly the right place at the right time.
Now Deanna and I have something in common beyond municipal governance ... coronary stents. All of your Laundry Night gal pals are wishing you a speedy recovery, Deanna.Ladies, here's another reminder that coronary disease is the No. 1 cause of death for women, taking the lives of twice as many women as all forms of cancer combined. Educate yourself!
*** In my quest to get to know everyone in town, I met Jim and Kim Washko on the Coeur d'Alene River under the Prichard Bridge on Saturday. They were coming ashore in their kayaks while we were enjoying the view from the river bank. I have a picture of Kim in her kayak at More Main Street.
***Don't know whether it's new or not but I saw it for the first time this weekend. The public service announcement for the Medicare program stars our own Anna Pearce in a spoof of her 1960s television program, "The Patty Duke Show." I could not adore her more.
***Celebrity sighting of sorts ... my friend Stephanie Smith reported a limo double parked on Sherman Avenue in front of Hudson's Hamburgers about 2 p.m. on Monday. It appeared as if the crowd was surrounding someone for autographs, but no word as to whom the celebrity might have been. Whoever it was has great taste in burgers, though. ***
The Business After Hours for the Post Falls Chamber on Thursday is a bit unique. It's being hosted by the Post Falls Community Volunteers at Q'emilin Park Pavilion with a number of local organizations set to be featured. The public is invited to come visit from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with the food bank, Toastmasters, Lions Club, Rotary, Chamber Ambassadors, Boys and Girls Club, Centennial Trail Foundation, Hospice and Dirne Clinic. Call 773-5016 for more info.***
Happy Birthday today to beautiful Kathleen Esquibel. Tomorrow my KVNI go-to guy, Kris Siebers along with Katie Mans, Wayne Huckabee and Marisa Buffaloe all share a birthday. Sandi Morrison is Friday's birthday girl and Saturday Terry Werner, Janet Brock, Josh Beebe, Amber Flynn, Emily Crawford, Belinda Rowe will blow out the candles. Darrel Kirking, Jessica Ohlig and Cody Jones were born on July 18 and Monday my favorite sailor Dave Kilmer and Bill Noordam mark their birthdays. But the most senior member of this week's Birthday Club is a genuine American hero, Roy Weaver. A decorated World War II Marine Corps combat veteran, Roy is also a former prisoner of war. He's a great guy whom I'm honored to know and who continues to contribute to his country and his community. On July 19 be sure to wish Roy a happy 91st birthday! ***
