St. Joe District ranger leaving position

District Ranger Chuck Mark will be leaving his position in St. Maries as District Ranger for the St. Joe Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests in August.

Mark has accepted a promotion as the new Deputy Forest Supervisor for the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest based in Dillon, Mont.

"I've lived and worked in St. Maries for six and a half years, so it's tough to leave," he said. "Although I'm looking forward to the new challenges I'll face in Dillon, my family and I will greatly miss our friends and the community here in north Idaho. I'm proud of the working relationships I've established locally and the outstanding natural resource stewardship that my staff has accomplished."

Mark began his Forest Service career as a seasonal firefighter on the Custer National Forest in 1980. Since then he has worked in various disciplines including fire, timber management, and silviculture on national forests throughout the northern Rockies. Mark's tenure on the Idaho Panhandle National Forests began in 2004 when he became the St. Joe District Ranger.

The Idaho Panhandle National Forest has begun searching for Mark's replacement. He leaves Aug. 16.
