Help light the fireworks fuse

| July 2, 2010 9:00 PM

The show will go on.

But when it comes to your fabulous Fourth of July fireworks, imagine for just a moment: What if it didn't?

Your imagination doesn't need to wander far. Post Falls, a hotbed of patriotism and pyrotechnic appreciation if ever there was one, recently announced that there will be no special celebration in the River City this Sunday. Reason: Lack of support. Translation: No money.

It's a fact that local businesses, the good guys and gals who consistently shoulder the biggest burdens on communities' wish lists, are struggling to meet their own needs in this economy. But just because many businesses can't write the big benevolent check today doesn't mean Kootenai County's July Fourth bash must be bashful.

To gently butcher an overused phrase, now is the time for all good men (women and children) to come to the aid of their fireworks fund.

Coeur d'Alene's magnificent fireworks display over the lake will continue to pack extra punch if you pack a little extra cash Sunday when you come to the parade on Sherman Avenue. Thanks to the ceaseless efforts of the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce to ensure North Idaho celebrates liberty in style, special Backward Parade Bucket Brigades will be dispatched along the parade route to happily accept donations of any size.

Donation buckets are also located now at Del Sol, Sterling Savings branches, Christmas at the Lake, Camera Corral, Cheryl Burchell Gallery, Devin Galleries, Velvet Hanger, All Things Irish, Moose Lounge, CDA Paddle Board, Runway and the CDA Cruises.

That's not to say that bigger checks are forbidden. In fact, there's still time for your company, service organization or secret philanthropic society to make a donation of $500 or more and have your photo published in The Press. To donate, contact Debbie Berger at [email protected] or call the Chamber offices at 664-3194.
