SPILL: Financials even more urgent

| July 1, 2010 2:30 PM

Do you see the apparent fervor this government displays pursuing BP? Do you wonder why the same vigor is not used in the financial fiasco? Additionally, the BP affair was at least partially accidental, whereas the financial problem is the result of decades of shrewd and asocial manipulations.

Manipulations that will continue since no governmental action has even touched the cornerstones of this evil; accounting elasticity, ridiculous audit methods, amalgamation of public and private money, secrecy camouflaged as privacy to protect sources and destinations of public money and non-enforcement of existing laws.

Everybody, even those presumably untouched, will have to recognize that changes are a must. Isn’t it obvious that simple replaement of elected officials is not working? Implementation of the following thoughts could bring the needed changes, if enough people recognize their urgency and regardless of party association demand them from all officials and candidates.

Accounting and audit procedures must guarantee abslutely complete visibility of every penny and every benefit derived from public resources. Secrecy brings corruption. Secrecy in public acounting is corruption. Fighting it successfully is enhanced when everybody demands public financial transparency first before attacking the “other side.” How about it?
