Omi swim July 18 at Sanders Beach

The 17th annual Steve Omi Memorial Swim is set for 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 18 at Sanders Beach.

The open water swim was started in 1994 in honor of Steve Omi, an avid swimmer who passed away from cancer one month before his 37th birthday.

This open water swim is a fundraiser for a scholarship to be awarded to a local graduating senior planning to swim at the collegiate level.

Last year, about 225 swimmers completed the one-mile course.

The $15 registration includes a race entry. The $27 registration includes race entry and souvenir sandals.
