Speaking up is true patriotism

In response to the "My Turn" by Tom Hearn, do you have a special corner on love of this country and patriotism?

Tom Hearn's words struck a tone that all of us have heard far too often, almost like 'how dare you portray to be so patriotic.' To expound of your love for this country and yet denounce the leadership or the direction of leadership can only be perceived as unpatriotic, you must be too far to the left or too far to the right. If you truly love your country then sit down, shut up, and pay their taxes. Yes, their taxes; some believe it was never your dollars to begin with, but a mere token given to you by the government so that all of you may sustain your meager lives.

The fact that there are people out there who dare to speak out against the government at any level should and must be met with disdain and the harshest of criticism. Please stop and read the last sentence over again because I left out one very, very important word. That word was our, because to all of us who love this country this is still our government.

When we were children we were told and made to sit down and shut up. We grew in body, mind and spirit and soon our God-given right to breathe was followed by the freedom to make our own choices. We the people, those three words unite all of us and the founding fathers chose their words for the purpose. This is still our government and must always be held accountable to we the people. We ask questions, we want answers and only the true shall keep all the people free. Why and for what purpose would our government and those who serve it lie to us? Why is it OK to allow persons to represent we the people who have no moral values and relationship failings, hey he's a great politician. But is he a great American and does he love this country like we the people?

When the policies fail and the ratings drop and the true is secluded behind closed doors, then we the people need to stand up. Raise your voices at town meetings, cry out in the streets and yes, between channel surfing take a glimpse of the Fox channel. Why would someone tell us not to watch a certain channel, just because the president told him or her? What kind of president would do that and why? Why would you or anyone support only filtered knowledge? When I am alone and by myself, my thoughts are sometimes of me or I.

If in being chosen to lead a group or nation those thoughts should be of we the people. How often has this president said I, I, when settling policies or going to other countries and extending the good will of our country. No position in politics should be used as a throne to sit upon. Politicians need to be challenged when we feel their interest is not in support of the people. The right was unrelenting in its attack on the Democrats. OK, I agree. The left was unrelenting in its attack on the Republicans. OK, I agree. Why is one okay and not the other; why is one bad and which one is good? Oh, I see; your party is the good one and you know you may be right. But why do you label yourself? It's because you feel the need to belong and find comfort in knowing your status.

What if you have just been had, and all that you believed in was a lie? That person and all those people in support have three choices. Continue to support the lie and convince yourself and those around you that somehow the lie is now the truth. Support those who you know are corrupt and just go along for the ride. No, you see we love America; we love our flag and all those who have fought and died for our right to stand up and be heard. This is and should not be about Democrats and Republicans; it's about our independence and the right to choose. No longer are we sitting quietly in the corner; our voices are being heard. Neither the left nor the right can tolerate this insurrection.

Speak openly and freely for your love and pride of this great nation. Raise your voices to the highest level to protect our constitution and the values we the people hold so dear. We the people, that's you and me, free to be you and me.
