Dorthy June Granberg, 87

Dorthy June Granberg, 87, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010. She was born June 5, 1922, in Spirit Lake, Idaho, the daughter of George and Cora Jacobson. She graduated from Spirit Lake High in 1940 and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1941 where she resided until her death.

She enjoyed spending time with family, crocheting, watching Jeopardy every day, working crossword puzzles and storytelling. Dorthy was a huge fan of John Wayne and spent countless hours watching classic movies with her sister, May, who lived with her for the past 28 years. She never missed sending cards for every occasion to all her friends and family and always had a warm smile for anyone who walked through her door.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend and is survived by a daughter, Sandra Knapp of Coeur d’Alene, who was her caregiver for the past seven years; two sons,  Fred Root and wife, Carol of Coeur d’Alene and Terry Root and wife, Trudi of Spokane; three sisters, May Cooler of Coeur d’Alene, Mary Shaver and Irene Christanson of Spokane; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; four brothers and two sisters.
